DCBX defied the odds once again, reaching out to an entire new market; filled with lights, cameras and lots of action! The 1st Annual DCV Film Festival, Produced by Lee and Katherine Smith and organized by Emily Aguilar with Sean Blue took place on the weekend of Friday August 7th, 2015 in DC. It was a weekend to be remembered with filmmakers from all over the Country, including Iceland and Puerto Rico. Over 15 short films were screened and the captivated attendees begging for more; from Mr. Bill Butler, the keynote speaker.
Bill Butler, A.S.C. (American Society of Cinematographers), came to speak all three days about his experiences working in Hollywood. Mr. Butler was the cinematographer for Jaws, Grease, Rocky II, III, IV, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Anaconda, Biloxi Blues, The Conversation and many more. His work includes big names in the business, including: Gene Hackman, Sylvester Stallone, John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John, JLO and Ice Cube. Mr. Butler was philosophical, yet inspiring; helping others to recognize their own abilities and using those gifts to excel in their field. The 94 year old, “walking legend” graced everyone for over an hour, explaining how it is better to concentrate on one thing you love and pursue it with passion; then try to focus on numerous avenues to success.
Mr. Butler’s stories of motivation and focus captivated the audience for the entire weekend, and set the stage for an energizing event. Attendees were raving with ideas and sharing their own perspectives on film and life in general. With such a remarkable turn out and experience for all, it is no wonder there are talks for what the future holds. Ms. Emily Aguilar along with DCBX has set the stage for next year; and this is just the preview, as the future holds a heart stopping plot line with a tear jerker in the end. Stay tuned folks; this is only the first of many series to come.
