The Global Impact Film Festival has an exciting line up of workshops this year.
Our goal is to educate socially minded filmmakers, digital media professionals and social entrepreneurs on how to create social change through media, the business side of getting projects made and the legal aspect of protecting yourself and your work.

WORKSHOP: The Business of Indie Filmmaking: Post Production and Marketing with Ron Newcomb, President at The Forge Studios

Ron Newcomb
Ron has written and directed award winning short and feature-length independent films. He founded the FCF, a network of over 500 faith-based filmmakers and film enthusiasts, organized and co-leads the DMV Producers Association, as well as being involved in other film groups. Under his Opening Act Production, LLC team, Ron developed the feature film, Rise of the Fellowship, a coming-of-age story about how a group of four friends learn there’s a little bit of geek and hero in all of us. Since its debut in 2013, Rise has been distributed internationally and has been dubbed in several foreign languages. Ron also produced, Made in the USA: A 30 Day Journey, which is a documentary that explores what the brand “Made in the USA” really means these days. Ron’s innovative transmedia concept, along with his strong IP of The Rangers creates a new, dynamic and lucrative model for independent filmmaking.


WORKSHOP: Film Fundraising with Paul Marengo, CEO of Promethean Fundraising

Paul Marengo
Paul is the CEO of Promethean Fundraising, a small boutique consulting firm that helps grassroots organizations become more competitive fundraisers. Mr. Marengo has 25+ years in non-profit organizational development. In his career, Paul is been the Managing Director for DC Film Alliance, and has been the managing director for the Asian Pacific American Film Festival as well as the Volunteer Coordinator for DC Independent Film Festival, DC Underground Film Festival, Reel Affirmations, and now FilmFestDC. Further adding to his resume, Paul has been the event manager for organizations such as the Guerilla Film Festival and Reel Affirmations as well as a Theater Manager for the Washington Jewish Film Festival. Lastly, Paul has been a film judge for the NYC Independent Film Festival, The Washington West Film Festival, and Smart Philm Festival.


WORKSHOP: VFX: Tips and Tricks for Your Next Film with Zhibo Lai, Founder of Dimension FX

Zhibo Lai
Zhibo is a filmmaker, visual effects artist, and licensed drone operator. Bringing his career in software engineering together with his love for film making, he founded Dimension FX, a boutique visual effects shop. Dimension FX’s mission is to elevate production values for independent films in the local community. Zhibo is currently in post-production on several local short films and is developing a one-woman web series set in the outskirts of the solar system.

When not out flying his drone, Zhibo serves on the boards of the DC Asian Pacific American Film Festival and the DC Shorts Film Festival. He holds a Masters of Science in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University. You can find him at


WORKSHOP: Stunts in Filmmaking: An Intro to Action with Dylan Hintz, Co-Founder of the DC Stunt Coalition

Dylan Hintz
Stunt Performer, Actor, Fight Choreographer and Live Stunt Producer
Dylan Hintz is a Maryland born-and-bred stunt performer, actor, fight choreographer, filmmaker, and live stunt show producer. Starting at Six Flags America in 2009 as a live show performer, he has since gone on to work professionally in the film and television industry. Dylan started the DC Stunt Coalition in 2011 in an effort to connect local aspiring stunt performers and action actors. He has worked on dozens of local independent films, and after joining SAG-AFTRA in 2013, has gone on to perform in major television shows such as “TURN“, “OUTSIDERS“, “BANSHEE“, and films such as “THE PURGE: ELECTION YEAR” and “BLACK MASS“. Using his training and connections in the industry, Dylan’s mission has been to bring practical, professional, and safe training methods for stunts and action to the DC area. He currently serves as a TIVA-DC board member in an effort to connect the growing DC, MD, and VA filmmaking community, and continues to reach out to local projects that are in need of his skills and those of the DC Stunt Coalition members that he trains with every weekend.
